The Royal Image and Modern Spanish Iconoclasm
<p>From the nineteenth century onward a considerable number of hostile actions against the portraits of royalty and religious art have been recorded. This iconoclasm which, before the nineteenth century, was blamed on foreigners, began to become more common among Spaniards early in the century, increasing with the Carlist wars. Due to their increased frequency, such violent actions against these types of representation, both monarchical and religious, came to acquire a very characteristic social function, becoming rites dramatizing popular support for progress. The moments of greatest violence against these works took place during the Spanish civil war, including burning and sacking of churches and even murders of priests. With the rise of Francoism, the dictator cast the blame on foreign governments, which seems to suggest a generalized tendency by the Spanish authorities to attribute such acts alien forces.</p>

This academic meeting was attended by two keynote speakers, Fausto Ramírez at the inaugural session and Edward J. There were also 36 dissertations, of which 21 are included in this publication, to which we add, as an introduction, a report by Sullivan himself.
On this occasion the subject, "Landscape aesthetics in the Americas", was proposed as a reflection on the American continent and its visual, literary and acoustic representations, which have had a long tradition in art studies. Indeed, aesthetic research on the notion of landscape belongs to various fields of study, so the need arises to outline the specific contribution of the study of the image, seeking to understand the complex phenomenon of landscape and territory. In this way, the discussion about the landscape throughout the American continent was articulated taking into account a diversity of theoretical and analytical positions, and practices for intervention in the territory, as well as the representation of nonexistent or utopian landscapes and the invention of representation methods.
