Description
An account of the resource

[The celestial monster and the subterraneous divinity (King Kong and San Juditas against the rest): Iconic recodifications of two images and their function as interventions in urban discourse]
Description
An account of the resource
In present-day Mexico, King Kong and St. Jude (Judas Thaddeus) represent—each one in his context—otherness. Both icons have been recodified in the urban environment to embody the two best-known enemies of Mexico and the United States. King Kong, from his first appearance, symbolizes blackness, primitivism, savagery, but also the foreign, something to be feared. Since September 11, and via a photomontage, the giant ape has become related with the great fear of the United States, terrorism. In Mexico, on the other hand, the figure of St. Judas Thaddeus is worshiped by a marginalized social class, despised as delinquent and addicted to drugs, and likewise feared: those who live from organized crime. On the basis of these two interventions of urban art, the meaning acquired by these two figures in the social sphere is set in relief.

Abstract
A summary of the resource.
