Durante esta última etapa de investigaciones de campo (2002-2009) el autor se propuso articular un programa de excavaciones de prueba extensivas en la Plaza Sur, en la Plataforma Norte de Morgadal Grande y en el Cerro del Oeste de El Tajín para poder estudiar los restos de su primera arquitectura pública (ca. 250-600 d.C.). A partir de entonces dio forma a un modelo capaz de dar cuenta del surgimiento y posterior desarrollo de los estados arcaicos de la región de El Tajín. Archaeological excavations carried out before the fourth stage of field research allowed a preliminary characterization of the early settlements of El Tajín’s civilization. During this last stage of field research (2002-2009), the author intended to articulate a program of extensive test excavations at the South Plaza, the North Platform of Morgadal Grande and the Cerro del Oeste in El Tajín in order to study the remains of its first public architecture (ca. 250-600 AD).
