Con tal finalidad, en este trabajo se establecen unas bases originales para una crítica de la misma. La construcción de estas bases debe partir directamente de la imagen, es decir, en contraposición a la tendencia logocéntrica occidental, crearse a partir de sus propias especificidades, de su materialidad y la generación de sentido a partir de éstas. Para fijar cuáles podrían ser las características inherentes a la imagen, a lo largo del artículo se contraponen con las del leguaje verbal para, mediante una comparación, ir desgranando sus cualidades de significación. El decir y el mostrar, la interpretación lingüística y la significación muda, o la temporalidad de la imagen frente a la secuencia lineal de la escritura y el lenguaje, son algunas de las características que se exponen en este artículo.</p> <p>The so-called “iconic turn” has obliged art history to reconsider its methodology for analyzing images. With this in mind, the present work sets forth some original bases for a criticism of images. These bases must be constructed using the image itself as their starting point, that is to say, be created—in contraposition to the Western logocentric tendency—with attention to the image’s own specific properties, its materiality, and the meaning they themselves generate. In order to fix what might be the inherent characteristics of images, these are set, throughout the article, in contraposition to those of verbal language; thus, by means of comparison, to give account of their qualities of meaning.
