A pesar de que el muralista elaboró su imagen a partir de la temática del poema, también consiguió, con las técnicas pictóricas, representar el mismo recurso estilístico del que el poeta chileno se sirvió para crear su poema. Por eso, se habla de una voluntad de aprehensión de la totalidad, un fenómeno de la percepción en el que ambos trabajos se centran. Las evocaciones territoriales de Neruda se ven encarnadas en la obra de Rivera por varios puntos de fuga, cuya intención es la de integrar al espectador mediante una visión esférica. La intención que comparten los dos artistas puede resumirse en que tanto el uno como el otro logran realizar una composición panorámica de su propia evocación de la América prehispánica. The painting Pre-Hispanic America by Diego Rivera served as an illustration for Pablo Neruda’s poem Canto general. As well as elaborating his image on the basis of the theme of the poem, the muralist also managed, with his pictorial techniques, to represent the same stylistic resource that the Chilean poet had employed to create his poem. Hence one can speak of a will to apprehend the totality, a phenomenon of perception in which both works are centered. Neruda’s territorial evocations can be seen embodied in the work of Rivera by the several vanishing points, the intention of which is to integrate the spectator by means of a spherical vision. The intention shared by both artists can be resumed in the fact that both of them achieve a panoramic composition of their own evocation of Pre-Hispanic America.
